FAQs

Can I show up to a SafeLot and be admitted to the program without completing an application?

No, those interested in staying at a SafeLot must complete an application appointment and background check to be considered for entry.

Is there a waitlist?

Yes, the current estimated wait time is 2-3 weeks. CSPI operates on a first-come-first-serve basis with limited availability at each location.

Is there a time limit on how long I can participate in the Safe Parking Program?

No, there is no time limit on how many nights you can stay at a SafeLot. However, our goal is to help you transition into a stable living situation!

Who runs the SafeLots?

CSPI partners with on-site volunteers to help run the daily operations of the SafeLots. If an issue arises, please contact CSPI at (720) 704-8242 to make a formal complaint.

What kind of crimes are automatic denials to the Safe Parking program?

CSPI strives to be as low-barrier as possible, which is why each background check is evaluated on a case-by-case basis and no crime is considered an ‘automatic denial.’ However, sexual offenses, felony drug charges, and felony assault charges are reviewed by the CSPI team to determine if the applicant can move forward in the application process.

What if I live in a city or county where a site is not available?

In your application appointment, you will discuss with a CSPI staff member which SafeLot site will best suit your needs based on current location, jobs, medical appointments, or other life situations. Even if there is not a site in your current city, do not hesitate to reach out to see if a different location works for you.

Why are SafeLots overnight only?

Our purpose is to provide a safe and sanitary place to park at night. Because we partner with established organizations, the parking lots are used by those organizations during the day and must be available for their own use.

What amenities are provided at each location?

Each SafeLot determines what kind of amenities they provide. Each site has a port-a-potty and hand washing station available for use. Further information on amenities can be provided during the application process.

I’m a service provider. Can I make a referral for my client?

Yes, you can make a referral on behalf of a client(s) using the “Request a Permit” form or by contacting CSPI staff at Grace@ColoSafeParking.org. Your client(s) will be placed on the waitlist on the date the referral was received.
